Woodstock Institute is excited to announce the addition of five new members to its board of directors. The new board members come from diverse backgrounds and have substantial expertise in the areas of asset-building, housing counseling, financial services, and community development.
Angel Beltran is the vice president of the MB Financial Community Development Corporation and a community development officer at MB Financial Bank in Chicago. Mr. Beltran has more than ten years of experience in Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) and community development banking products and services and has served on many nonprofit boards.
Karen Edwards is the principal of KME Consulting, LLC in Kansas. Prior to establishing KME Consulting, Ms. Edwards assisted in founding the Center for Social Development at Washington University in St. Louis and spent 20 years at the Center. Ms. Edwards has published extensive research on creating greater economic and financial development opportunities for diverse population groups, particularly Native Americans.
Ofelia Navarro is the executive director of the Spanish Coalition for Housing in Chicago. Ms. Navarro brings nearly 20 years of on-the-ground knowledge of the housing and financial literacy needs for traditionally underserved populations, particularly Spanish speakers. Ms. Navarro’s work gives her a first-hand perspective on how the foreclosure crisis affects the Latino community’s prospects for homeownership and wealth creation.
Megan O’Neil is a Chicago-based, independent asset-building consultant on community economic development and disability. A nationally known expert formerly with World Institute on Disability, Ms. O’Neil provides technical assistance on relationship-building between economic development groups and disability organizations, conducts training on anti-poverty initiatives to disability organizations, and develops financial literacy curricula targeted at people with disabilities, among other related services.
Christine Robinson is the president and founder of Stillwaters Consultation, a national consulting practice in Massachusetts. Ms. Robinson brings more than 25 years of experience in program development, design, and evaluation; the formation of local, state, and national initiatives; and strategic planning. Substantive areas of expertise include community development, asset strategies, and family health and welfare issues. Prior to establishing Stillwaters Consultation, Ms. Robinson founded several nonprofits and led the poverty and human development programs for several foundations, including the Pew Charitable Trusts, the Moriah Fund, and Fannie Mae Foundation.
