Woodstock Institute is pleased to be holding our 2016 Community Investment Award reception May 12th at the wonderful Stony Island Arts Bank, a beautifully refurbished bank building serving now as a community arts and culture space. Located at 68th and Stony Island, the Stony Island Arts Bank rehab project was conceived and executed by Chicago public artist Theaster Gates and completed ahead of the building’s opening in October 2015.
We are further excited to announce that the evening’s program will be honoring Accion Chicago, highlighting the organization’s hard-won successes in community lending. As a community development financial institution, Accion Chicago’s work has long expanded access to safe capital for small businesses, and they’ve protected small business owners from the growing threat of predatory online business loans that trap borrowers in debt with high fees and unreasonable terms.
In addition to enjoying the reception and the venue’s artistic offerings, attendees will also take in a night of delicious food from local vendors, musical entertainment, and a lineup of engaging speakers. So come network with our staff and board, celebrate Accion Chicago, and enjoy a night out in support of a great cause.
Tickets can be found at our Eventbrite page. We hope to see you there!
The Stony Island Arts Bank is located at 6760 S Stony Island Ave Chicago, IL. It can be reached by the 6 or 28 buses. It is located off the 67th street Metra.
